Can I be honest?

Greetings,

I hope you all are doing well and counting all of your blessings this holiday season. I sure am. If I can admit it, this year has been a whirlwind of ups and downs, but through it all, I count it all joy because I am still here to see it. From failed spring break plans, to no graduation, moving, the end of a friendship, studying for the bar for 5 months, catching covid..whew! This year was not for the faint of heart but through it all, God has been crazy faithful. Tonight, I am reflecting on all this year entailed and if I can be honest, it was a hot mess. I try to have a very optimistic attitude towards life because I believe that it is truly what you make it and as the saying goes, "what does not kill you, only makes you stronger." Well, right now, I feel like super woman. But I'm also aware that some people had it far worse than me. Some lost family members, jobs, homes etc... Life is a series of highs and lows. Like the book of Ecclesiastes eloquently puts it, there is a time for everything and a season for everything under the sun.

What you do with the time you're given is what is most important. Even when you experience very low moments in life, it's important to always be hopeful. When you lose hope, that is when you have given your circumstances the power to dictate your next move. Fear then starts to creep in, robbing you of your joy and peace. This is why its so important to enjoy the good moments in your life because you never know what tomorrow will bring. When things are good, be grateful. Celebrate those moments and when things are not so good, remain hopeful because we know that life is in constant rotation of good moments and bad ones. As much as we love the sun, we need the rain in order for life to grow. Nothing grows when the land is dry. So in those moments where it is metaphorically raining all around you, change your perspective. Use the rainy season to plant, plan, and even rest if need be.

While this year has been tough for some of us, there are people who've used this time as the push they needed to start their own business, purchase their first home, pay off debt etc.. Life is truly what you make it and while no one can predict what 2021 will entail, with the right mindset, nothing can stop you from what is meant for you.

Here is a list of things I am grateful for this year

1. Health (I recovered from covid)

2. Sanity

3. Wellbeing of my family

4. Renewed sense of purpose

5. Continual growth in my relationship with God

6. Launching SheRize

7. Graduating and going through the entire bar prep process

8. Friends that turned into family

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, (definition of 2020)

a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate
a time for war and a time for peace.

Remember, you can RIZE from anything, even a pandemic!

ABOUT US

SheRize is a platform that aims to highlight the successes of women from across the globe—particularly those who come from marginalized communities. Most of us can attest to the difficulties of going to college, opening up a business, and starting a career. Unfortunately, there are those who get discouraged along the way. But for those of us who made it through, our achievements can inspire someone else not to give up. Our successes are a reflection of the faith, hard work, perseverance, consistency, and drive that it took for us to achieve our goals.    The vision of SheRize is to bring all those women together to inspire other young women to reach their goals and RIZE to their fullest potential. Our foundation is rooted in our belief in God.  We can make our plans, but it is he who helps us to achieve them—Proverbs 16:9 We will achieve these goals through mentorship. A mentor is something that I didn't have until much later in life. As a first-generation woman navi...

Women Entrepreneurs: Elaine Jean Pierre

Good morning early rizers, On Saturdays, we highlight women entrepreneurs. Today I want to highlight the business of my good friend Elaine called 'The Pierre Group.' Go follow on Instagram and visit her website www.thepierregroupcs.com  for all of your consulting needs. Some of her services include but not limited to bookkeeping, credit repair, payroll, tax preparation, financial planning, notary signing, document filing, and consultation. She launched her business this year in the middle of a pandemic! It takes money, ambition, and vision to launch any business let alone launching it in a year where everything was so unpredictable. Below she answers some questions to motivate and inspire the next generation of women entrepreneurs. 1. What do you do for a living? I am an audit analyst and also a business owner. The special thing that God has given me is a heart to help. I have this thing where I can help revive a persons business no matter what type of business it is. It eve...
